Story Overview

The Nohara family is relocating to Akita Prefecture due to Hiroshi’s new job assignment near his hometown. They settle into a traditional Japanese farmhouse within a tranquil rural setting near Hiroshi’s parents, beginning an idyllic countryside lifestyle.

The grandfather, Ginnosuke, introduces Shinnosuke to rural pastimes by teaching him how to catch insects and fish. Evening gatherings around the sunken hearth feature sharing local Akita dishes, strengthening familial bonds.

In the village, Shinnosuke interacts with farmers and makes new friendships. His days are filled with joy until one morning when Shiro appears covered in soot and unexpectedly dashes away. Curious, Shinnosuke follows Shiro and encounters a mysterious train he has never seen before. Pursuing Shiro, Shinnosuke inadvertently boards this train, which transports him to Coal Town.
